Hello! Welcome to Harvest Street, the photography, lifestyle and culinary journeys of Robin and Grant. We are creative souls and home cooks and are all about delicious healthy (well, most of the time) and easy to prepare food, being well-organized (Robin’s forte), gardening and getting outdoors.
I am (me, Robin) the primary author and photographer of our blog. I’ve been wheat-free for decades due to an extreme “common wheat” intolerance. We’re talking waaaaay before you could find tasty gluten-free foods in the stores and in restaurants. In thinking about them bad ole’ days when I could not eat out safely, I remember several times when I got pretty darn sick after a restaurant meal. Back then the supermarkets had every flavor of rice cake known to man taking up multiple shelves in their cereal aisles and that was about all the choice I had for anything crunchy that wasn’t a chip or closely resembled a hockey puck in density and taste.
Fact One: If I was stranded on a desert island, starving and the palm trees dropped packages of rice cakes in my hands I would hold out until I was ready to drop before eating one single rice cake. I kid you not.
Fact Two: I’m relieved that we (my wheat-free friends and I) have so many great options today.
Our blog is a small slice, get it 🙂 of our adventures in creating recipes that taste delicious, are approachable and are always common wheat-free and many times gluten-free. I can eat spelt a species of wheat also known as hulled wheat, fortunately. Perhaps because Spelt has been cultivated since 5000 BCE and has not been genetically modified, that I know of, it works for me in small amounts.
Grant is one of those humans who can read a technical manual and not fall asleep or yawn, what? He is definitely a problem solver and great at finding solutions to completing a DIY project.
Grant is fueled by research and information, love of family and friends, YouTube videos, gardening and ANYTHING sweet.
I love – Sharing, food grazing, dahlias (okay… and other flowers too), meandering with my Nikon, tinkering in my studio creating glass art, Abba, Weeping Willows, Hugh Jackman (who may be replaced someday by Chris Hemsworth, but not soon Hugh!) and The Walking Dead.
I dislike – A messy desk, “tweaking” myself while exercising, teeny glass shards that stab into your skin and on that same note, splinters.
Grant and I both have Flickr and 500px accounts where we enjoy connecting with our photographer friends around the world so we thought, hey! let’s start a blog to share our love of tasty home cooked dishes, photography tips, creative DIY’s, growing things and more….
We reside in the foothills of Colorful Colorado and want to invite you to follow along with our journey. Welcome to Harvest Street and so good to meet you!
